Share the story of ‘Dear Zoo’ and comment on the pictures you see. Emphasise and model the describing words to support your child’s vocabulary development, i.e. big, tall, fierce, grumpy, scary, etc.
Ages 3–4 and 4–5
Share the story of ‘First Day at Bug School’ by Sam Lloyd

Insect investigation – go into the garden or on a woodland walk and see how many creepy crawlies you can find. What do they look like? What colour are they? How many legs do they have? Take some photos together so you can talk about the creatures you found again later. This extra repetition will help your child learn new vocabulary.
