3. Council Tax Requirement
The Council must prepare a statutory calculation - the Council Tax Requirement.
This is calculated by multiplying the Tax Base in an area (the number of Band D equivalent dwellings for Council Tax purposes) by Band D Council Tax. The Band D Council Tax figures are shown in a previous table whilst the Tax Base for each area is as follows:
Tax Base for Council Tax | 2021/22 | 2022/23 | Change |
---|---|---|---|
Oldham Council Area | 57,200 | 57,450 | 250 |
Of which: | |||
Saddleworth Parish Area | 8,699 | 8,833 | 134 |
Shaw & Crompton Parish Area | 5,479 | 5,548 | 69 |
The resulting Council Tax Requirement is as follows:
Council Tax Requirement | 2021/22 Council Tax Income £000 |
2022/23 Council Tax Income £000 |
Change £000 |
---|---|---|---|
Revenue for Council Services | 98,552 | 102,932 | 4,380 |
Saddleworth Parish Council | 205 | 215 | 10 |
Shaw & Crompton Parish Council | 95 | 99 | 4 |
Council Tax Requirement | 98,852 | 103,246 | 4,394 |
The amount of revenue raised from each element of Council Tax in 2022/23 compared to 2021/22 is presented in this table.
This includes the increase in resources generated by the rise in the Tax Base. The total raised which helps pay for Council Services is £102.932m. Within this amount, £12.549m helps pay for Adult Social Care services.
In total therefore, income generated by Council Tax for borough wide Council services has increased by £4.380m between years. Elements for the Parish Councils are collected on behalf of those organisations.
