How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

When a child is due for starting our Playgroup the parents/carers attend an induction where they can discuss any identified needs of their child or discuss any concerns they may have. Once the child has started we begin to observe all children and complete a baseline assessment with 4 weeks. We also have different assessment tools we use if we have any concerns including Chaps documents, Wellcomm and ASQ. If we at this point feel the child need any extras support we would discuss with the parents and decide together a plan of action.

How do you involve parents/carers?

We involve parents/carers if we feel the child needs any extra support. We would firstly have a discussion with parent/carer and decide what action we may need to take or if we need to have further assessments.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

Parents/carers are fully involved with all aspects of childrens learning and development. If your child needs extra support whilst in our setting we would discuss this with you on a regular basis with our setting and together through us and home, implement any activities or strategies we feel your child needs. If your child has an identified need we would hold regular Personal Centred Review meetings you as the parent/carer and any professionals or agencies involved in your childs support would attend.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

Each child in our setting is allocated with a key worker who with support from our Senco will ensure that every aspect of your childs educational needs and well being are being met. This is supported if needed with discussions and meetings with any relevant agencies. Through planning, observations and assessment we would regularly assess the childs needs are being met.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

We would regularly have reviews with both yourselves and any professionals involved and assess your childs develoment and whether they are meeting their agreed outcomes.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

We plan individually for each child and through discussion would source and implement activities for your child. We would adapt where possible our environment to suit your childs need.

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

Our setting is very accessible both indoors and outdoors. We have wide doorways and ramps at the setting. It all on ground level and have a disabled toilet. Our room is laid out for easy access and can be easily adapted to suit individual needs of children and their parents/carers .
