Aims of the Training Session:

  • To have a thorough and robust understanding of school attendance and the role of the governor in ensuring this
  • To have an update of the local picture, our challenges and where we are heading
  • To build networks of support in order to ensure a cooperative and successful borough
  • To recognise and build on good practice in your setting and have the confidence and knowledge to effectively challenge areas for improvement
  • To secure knowledge surrounding exclusions and In Year Fair Access
  • To explore statutory responsibilities regarding exclusions and In Year Fair Access
  • To share good practice

Objectives of the Training Session:

  • Explore the legal processes around the exclusion of pupils from schools/academies.
  • Review the Governing Board's legal obligations around exclusions, particularly for a child at risk of permanent exclusion.
  • Examine and explain the guidance around exclusions from school.
  • Explore good practice to highlight the range of interventions and reasonable adjustments that may be used to prevent exclusion.
  • Examine and explain the IYFA process including legal responsibilities
