There are many things you can do to keep your independence, both at home and when you are out and about.

Finding support for yourself

You may find the support you need locally, why not look at the support that is available in your community?

The Action Together website has a directory of services delivered by local voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations.

You may be able to use it to find an activity to suit your needs or those of a loved one or client:

If you can't find anything to meet your needs then it may be that you would benefit from further input from Adult Social Care.

Equipment and Adaptations

If you need advice about equipment or adaptations in your home, find out how to refer to the Community Occupational Therapy Team:

Housing

Social housing is provided by housing associations or Oldham Council. It supports people who cannot afford to rent or buy a home privately. These homes are offered to those who need them most.

If you need help with your housing situation, or you are worried about becoming homeless, you can find out how to contact the Housing Options Team for advice and support:

Mental health support

If you are worried about your mental health, or about someone else’s, you can find advice, guidance and local support on our Mental health pages.

If you feel you might try to take your own life, seriously harm yourself, or need urgent medical help:

  • Call 999 and ask for an ambulance.
  • Go straight to A&E.

Mental health emergencies are serious. You are not wasting anyone’s time by asking for help.

If you feel you can keep yourself safe for now but still need urgent support:

  • Call NHS 111 for advice.
  • Contact your GP surgery and ask for an emergency appointment.

You do not have to deal with this on your own — support is available.
