5. Trade unions
Trade Unions play a significant role in representing and advocating for local government employees, so you may want to think about joining one.
The role of the Trade Unions is to negotiate pay and conditions, offer individual representation and campaign for better deals for local government workers.
Several Trade Unions represent workers in local government. The recognised Trade Unions that we work with are UNISON, GMB and Unite who represent core council employees including our school support staff. There are a few other unions that are sector specific.
