Starting a new role can be exciting but for some there may be a few nerves.

There will be lots of information to take in over your first few weeks and you will be meeting lots of new people.

We will support you as much as possible in helping you to settle into Oldham Council.

Here’s some of the things to expect on your first day or within your first week (dependent on job role):

  • Meet your manager (in person or virtually)
  • Meet your team (in person or virtually)
  • A tour around your place of work – find out where the break room is/where you can make a brew (very important)
  • Meet your colleagues who will be able to support you through your first few weeks
  • Find out more about your service management structure
  • Learn more about your job role and how you will play a key role in supporting our residents
  • Pick up your new kit and get log in details for your computer/laptop where applicable
  • Pick up your PPE (personal protective equipment), uniform, and specific extra equipment required for your role (if applicable)
  • Get your ID badge
  • Get access to our Learning Management System and book on the mandatory training courses

Preparing for your first day

  • Find out where the best place is to park
  • If you’re travelling by local transport, find out bus, train or tram times and if you’re eligible for a discount
  • Bring a pen and notebook, you’ll probably want to make lots of notes to refer to
  • Find out where you can get lunch or if you’re bringing your own what have you got access to i.e., microwave
  • If you have a P45, bring this so we can make sure you’re paid correctly
  • Check the dress code for your service area

Your manager should be in touch to answer any questions you have but don’t hesitate to contact them (or recruitment) if you’re unsure about anything you’ll need for your first day.

Their contact details will be on your welcome letter.
