5. Week 2 - Friday

Age 2–3

  • Share the story again and ask your child some questions such as:
    • Where are the family going?
    • Who is riding on Daddy’s back?
    • What sound does the long, wavy grass make?
    • How will the family cross the river?

Age 3–4

  • Visit your local park or woods and take a bag or bucket with you to collect things in then discuss what you’ve collected when you get home.

Local parks 

  • As you walk, play “I Spy”. Model the sounds that you can hear at the beginning of words, for example; “I spy with my little eye, something beginning with “ssssss” – it’s a stone!” or you can ask your child to find things that are different shapes or colours.

Age 4–5

  • Share the story again and ask your child some questions such as:
    • When do the family take their shoes and socks off?
    • Who is the smallest person in the family? Who is the tallest?
    • Why do they trip in the forest?
    • What happens after they’ve been through the forest?
