Waterhead Park was opened in 1926 and covers an area of five hectares. It has an open aspect that provides scenic views across to Saddleworth Moors.

It has excellent play facilities and is home to a thriving community-growing hub VIP (veg in the park).

How to get there

Waterhead Park is located to the east of Oldham town centre.

Bus routes

  • 350 – Oldham to Ashton (via Huddersfield Road)
  • 410 – Oldham to Higginshaw Circular
  • 411 – Oldham to Roxbury Circular

All services run along Huddersfield Road.

Metrolink

The nearest stops are Oldham Mumps or Derker.

Car parks

There are two car parks: one at the main entrance (Herbert Street and Peach Road), and another within the park near the rugby club.

Let's go for a walk

Green Walk

Enter the park from Peach Road and turn left. Follow the path towards the Growing Hub. Walk around the Growing Hub and enter the walled garden.

Take the first exit on the left and continue along the roadway. After the parking bays, turn right onto a sandstone path.

Follow this path, then turn right and continue until you reach the children’s play area.

This is a short and relatively easy route.

Blue Walk

For a longer route, walk along Peach Road until it joins Morley Street. Continue across Culvert Street and onto Waterworks Road.

On the right is a wooded area with natural planting, where wildlife such as kestrels can be seen.

Turn right after the lodge and follow the path down towards Strinesdale Reservoir. Follow the path around the reservoir and return the same way.

This route links with the Strinesdale walk.
