How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

We baseline all children when starting at the nursery then carry out observations, planning and assessments to support their development. We have and onsite SENCO and an area SENCO within the company to support all staff. We also have relevant toolkits to carry out assessments.

How do you involve parents/carers?

We send out a 'what to expect and when' document out to all new starters for parents to highlight what their children are already doing, this then helps staff when doing the baseline assessment in the nursery. If anything is identified parents are notified and advised on procedures. We always get consent off parents before contacting outside agencies.

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

Staff do weekly planning and daily observations which they then link to the EYFS. These observations are uploaded onto children's personal profiles that parents get a secure log in for so they can look at the observations and also add their own observations from home. We have regular parents evening to discuss their child's time and development at nursery.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

Planned activities are carried out around the children's next steps, which are then observed and linked to the EYFS. We do termly tracking to observe the children's progress. Feeding back to parents at the end of the day and passing on any relevant information from nursery to home and visa-versa ensure that all the children's needs are being met.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

The parents fill out a 'what to expect and when' document which then works alongside the staff when filling out a baseline assessment when the child first starts at nursery. From this, staff can highlight any areas that needs support with development. Observations are linked to the EYFS which parents have access to. The nursery does termly tracking to observe if any children need further support with development.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

Continuous provision for both indoor and outdoor provision is provided giving the opportunity for child initiated play. Staff understand the how to differentiate activities so all children can be involved and gain something from it.

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

The nursery is a one level nursery with no stairs. Our doors are wide enough for wheelchair access both internal and external. We have an accessible toilet available. We also have a range of accessible equipment and resources.

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

We risk assess any outings that we may go on. We have nursery prams for any children that aren't able to walk independently. We also have a nursery mini bus with children's car seats.

How do you work with other organisations?

We work in partnership with parents and external agencies by holding regular meetings. This ensures everyone is aware of any updates and changes to the child and their development.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

When a child starts at the setting we do a home visit where a senior member of staff and the child's key worker will go to the child's house to go through 'all about me' documents with the parents/carers. This also gives the child the opportunity to meet their new keyworker in the comfort of their own home and familiar surroundings. The child will then do a gradual admission into the nursery and attend every day for one hour to settle in and familiarise themselves with staff, children and routines. This can be between one and two weeks depending on the child. When a child leaves the nursery we fill out a transition document and involve parents in the process. We try to liaise with the new setting or school to ensure all relevant information is passed on.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

Staff will attend regular training provided by the local authority.

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

You can approach the nursery manager of the setting or the directors of the company. The actions could include investigation with further actions to be addressed by the nursery.
