How do you identify special educational needs and disabilities?

By doing observations and using the EYO’s, keeping up to date with training and speaking with parents and other professionals.

How do you involve parents/carers?

By discussing the outcomes of observations and regular reports on child’s development

How do you support a child’s learning and development?

I would work in partnership with parents and any other bodies involved i.e. health visitors or early years specialists.

How do you meet a child’s educational needs?

Through my regular observations and communicating with parents and other relevant professionals.

How do we know my child is achieving agreed outcomes?

By using the EYO’s we can monitor the child’s age /stage of development and assess the outcomes to achieve the next steps.

How do you adapt for a child with extra needs?

Activities are planned around the child’s needs. I would make sure the child is able to participate in the activities and seek help if needed for additional support.

How accessible is your service, outside and inside?

My outdoor area is easily accessible for a wheelchair, but my indoor area is not as easy for a wheelchair.

How do you involve children in outings and trips?

I would discuss with parents what is required for a trip outside of the setting and incorporate those needs if necessary.

How do you work with other organisations?

I make myself available to meet with any external agencies to discuss the child’s needs. I am currently working alongside a Teacher of the Deaf as I have 2 children with hearing impairments.

How do you support children when they start and leave?

I have settling in sessions and speak with parents about the child’s needs. When a child leaves for another setting, I write a transition report to show where the child’s progress.

How are you/staff trained in extra needs?

I work alone and have no staff.

What is your policy on compliments, complaints, concerns?

I display Ofsted’s address and phone number for parents to see. I also have a complaints policy and procedure which I give a copy to parents.
