Included within the town centre redevelopment project, is the restoration of the Old Library.

The refreshed venue has become the new home for the Oldham Theatre Workshop, a gallery, and the new council chamber and offices. The former Old Library has been renamed the J R Clynes Building.

Along with Gallery Oldham and the current Library space, the key asset will play a major role in delivering our cultural quarter offer.

the J R Clynes Building.

Public Space

Located between the J R Clynes Building (the former Old Library) and Old Post Office, is Oldham’s first public park.

The park will further strengthen our Cultural Quarter offer to create an open flexible public space off Southgate Street.

This will become a centrepiece, bringing the library, gallery and J R Clynes Building together.

The exciting space will be used for hosting events, fairs, performances, and festivals.
