5. Week 1 - Friday

Nursery-age children:

Octopants

Pretend that you’re an octopus under the sea and play bubbles.

Bubbles are a great way to promote turn taking and sharing, for example “First it’s Ben’s turn, then it’s Jack’s turn.” You can develop your child’s language by adding words, for example if your child says “again”, you say “blow the bubbles again.”

1, 2, 3, Do the Dinosaur

Go through the book again and ask your child some questions about the dinosaur, such as: “Who is dressed as the yellow dinosaur?” “Where is the volcano?” “What are the dinosaurs doing?”

If your child struggles to answer any of the questions you can model the answers to them, but make sure you give them plenty of thinking time first. Your child might take up to 10 seconds to think about their answer.

Reception-age children:

The Runaway Pea

Try growing your own pea shoot. Ask questions such as 'What can you see?' 'What do you think might happen next? 'Why is the shoot growing upwards?
