Youth Work and Volunteering at Lifelong Learning

Lifelong Learning has been delivering programmes, that support learners to gain national qualifications and also gain valuable work experience in the relevant role.

Youth Work Level 2 and 3

Interested in working as a Youth Worker? Want to work with young people on a range of issues that affect their lives? We offer the following courses and qualifications:

  • An Introduction to Youth Work
  • Award in Youth Work Principles Level 2
  • Certificate in Youth Work Level 3

Award in Education and Training Level 3

If you are interested in a career in training and teaching adults then this course is a valuable introduction to the theory and practice of teaching, learning and assessment.

You will need at least a Level 2 in Literacy, some basic ICT skills and a Level 3/A Level in your subject area.

  • Supporting adults in a learning environment
  • First steps into a career to teach ESOL or other subjects in a further education setting

A great opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and experience as a tutor or Learning Support Worker whilst volunteering with Lifelong Learning. You will be supported to obtain key training courses and qualifications as well as a DBS check.

I started my time at Oldham Lifelong Learning as a learner, taking courses in Maths, English and IT. My main focus was on gaining my qualifications. These courses not only helped me to develop my knowledge and skills but also started to build my confidence and helped me to recognise what I was capable of. I then started a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties.  

I was offered an opportunity to volunteer at the centre; it was such a great experience! It brought what I was learning on the course to life. After completing the course, I continued volunteering as I had enjoyed the experience so much. It allowed me to build on the skills I had and learn more from the tutors and Learning Support Workers, who were always happy to answer any questions I had, and they shared good practice with me. The greater part of my learning came from the learners themselves, as every learner has their own unique style of learning. 

On reflection, I feel proud of my journey with Oldham Lifelong Learning. I progressed from being a learner to a volunteer, and then I successfully gained employment as a Learning Support Worker. The volunteering has played a significant role in my journey. It has made me realise just how invaluable it can be as a pathway into employment.
