Wraparound childcare includes before and after school care for primary school children, such as breakfast clubs and after-school programs.
If your school is planning to offer wraparound care, you should keep track of parent requests and respond appropriately.
There isn’t a single approach to providing wraparound care. Schools should explore different options to determine the best fit for their needs. These options include:
- School-run childcare on the school premises.
- Collaborating with other schools, with services based at a host school.
- A mixed model, where the school provides part of the care, and a private provider handles the rest, either on or off-site.
- Childcare run entirely by private, voluntary, or independent providers, either on or off-site.
- Services offered by childminders recommended by the school.
Schools should also consider how their plans might affect existing local providers offering similar services.
