On Monday, April 15 work is to start to take down and close Ash Footbridge which runs over the River Medlock, Woodhouses, Failsworth.
The bridge is in a severally and dangerous dilapidated condition.
The works are being done to ensure the safety of the public.
As part of the decommissioning a secure 2.4m high mesh fence will be put in place around either end of the structure to prevent access.
The work is expected to take two weeks.
