Following the tragic fire of Grenfell Tower we want to ensure Oldham residents living in high rise tower blocks have all the advice, support and reassurance they need.

There are eight social housing high rise tower blocks in Oldham. Two are owned by Oldham Council and managed by Inspiral Oldham Ltd. The other six are managed by housing providers.

None of these properties are covered in the same type of cladding Grenfell Tower was.

All eight have been inspected to identify any hazards and up-to-date fire risk assessments are in place for each.

We have worked with partners and housing providers to ensure all residents in these tower blocks have been contacted for reassurance about fire safety practices.

All high rise buildings in Oldham are inspected on a regular basis, reviewing safety features and checking for any hazards or risks in communal areas. We strictly adhere to national and local policy.

If there are any recommendations from the incident in London, we will of course review our own practices and policies in line with this.

We have identified one privately owned high rise block in Oldham which the council would not usually hold records for. However, no one currently lives in the building and we are working with the owners and developers to establish facts about the property.

Fire safety advice from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service remains that if you have a fire or become aware of a fire in your home which includes blocks of flats, you should get out, stay out and call 999.

If you have any concerns about the safety of your building you can email highrise@manchesterfire.gov.uk, check www.manchesterfire.gov.uk for more information or ring 0800 555815
