Dr Kershaw’s Hospice

Dr Kershaw’s Hospice provides a range of clinical specialist palliative care services for patients from across the borough with non-curable, life threatening illnesses, together with support and counselling for patients’ relatives and carers. The Hospice has a 24-hour telephone advice line, providing professional support for patients, carers, family and friends as well as health care professionals.

Action Oldham Fund

Action Oldham Fund changes local lives by supporting smaller voluntary and community groups across the borough. Grants are given to smaller volunteer-led organisations like older people’s luncheon clubs, mental health self-help groups, disability sports groups and disadvantaged younger people. These smaller groups enhance health and wellbeing, rebuild lives affected by poverty, crime, isolation or unemployment. Maggie’s Oldham provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

Tameside Oldham and Glossop Mind

Mental health is very much in the spotlight currently, more so than any other time. MIND offers information and advice to people with mental health problems. It also works to raise public awareness and understanding of issues relating to mental health.

Stephen Gartland Foundation

Stephen Gartland Foundation was launched in memory of the former rugby league player and coach.  The Foundation raises funds for junior rugby teams and equipment and funds medical treatment and equipment for sick children.

Christies at Oldham

Christies at Oldham was the first in a unique network of Christie radiotherapy centres where patients can access radiotherapy close to home.  The Christie at Oldham first opened it’s doors in 2010 and is run by a dedicated team of radiographers, medical and support teams to ensure expert delivery of treatment. 


Mahdlo is a state-of-the-art Youth Zone in the heart of Oldham for 8-19 year olds (up to 25 for young people with a disability offering activities and opportunities for all young people, 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year.  Mahdlo aims to deliver high quality, innovative activities and experiences for young people from Oldham to provide opportunities to raise aspirations and support young people to be the best they can be.

Pennine Pen Animal Rescue Oldham

Pennine Pen Animal Rescue Oldham provides sanctuary for unwanted and abandoned animals and works to find them a forever home.  The charity has been in operation since 2001 and works in partnership with other animal welfare organisations.

RSPCA Oldham

RSPCA Oldham opened it’s centre in 1987 and helps to give care and love to animals until they can find a permanent loving new home.  In 2005, they merged with the Bury branch to working together.  They are a separate registered charity of the RSPCA and work locally to raise funds.

Other Charities

The Mayor is aware that during her year of office she will visit organisations within the borough whose needs become apparent to her at that time. She therefore wishes to reserve part of her charity total for those charities for whom a donation will make a big difference.
