We are carrying out website maintenance on Tue 10 March. Some pages relating to councillors, meetings, agendas and minuets may be unavailable during this time, we apologise for any inconvenience.

2. Instructions

Before the Pest Control visit

  • Please remove all bedding and clothing from the affected areas in black bags  This should be then washed on a hot washing machine cycle.
  • Please check individual items for suitability and washing data labels.
  • Drop the bags used in outdoor bins. Do not bring the laundered washing back to the property until the property has been treated.
  • Dry items in a tumble dryer and then place directly into new bags. (A dryer on high heat can kill bed bugs.)
  • Stand all mattresses up against the walls and remove all headboards from the bed frames.
  • Remove all furniture from the sides of the room to allow the best possible access to all areas.
  • Remove pets from the property before the treatment. Remove or cover aquariums and fish tanks.

  • Also remove any pet food, bedding, water bowls and toys.

  • You will need to provide access to any affected areas; pest control officers cannot lift carpets or remove floorboards or kick boards in kitchens.

After the Pest Control visit

  • Vacate the property during treatment, and do not return until the property is completely dry.
  • If wet treatment has been used, do not vacuum for 14 days after treatment as this will remove insecticide on carpets and floor coverings.
  • Let the treatment dry out completely (approx 2 hours) and then ventilate the room(s) thoroughly before allowing pets to return.
  • Clean up dead bed bugs on surfaces and floors and dispose of in external bins.
