Christmas hours

It’s hotting up, it’s the perfect time to get healthy and active

Why not make the most of the longer, warmer days by spending time outdoors?

We have more than 35 parks, plus moorlands, reservoirs and nature reserves, that you can explore and experience this summer.

Being active can make you happier and it helps with many health problems including obesity, backache and stress, to name just a few.

And the best bit is you don’t have to be a gym addict or a marathon runner to be active - making small changes to your lifestyle will bring big health benefits.

Walking a bit more, getting out in the garden or taking the stairs at work can all add towards our daily recommended physical activity levels.

Our new Get Oldham Active programme is here to help you on your journey to becoming active. It is packed full of information to help you find the best activity to suit your interests, lifestyle and commitments

There are even some 10 minute motivator tips to help the busiest of us to get active. And don’t take our word for it, it’s full of people, sharing their journeys to fitness.

You could start your journey by downloading our ‘Let’s Go For A Walk’ maps - easy to follow routes around Oldham’s best loved parks.

Get off the couch and grab your trainers, with the couch to 5k programme. In just nine weeks the app will have you running a 5k – why not start off with one of Oldham’s parkruns, every Saturday at 9am in Alexandra Park and Chadderton Hall Park.

Swimming more your thing? Our five leisure centres all have a swimming pool for you to enjoy. Swimming is a great way to get active without putting stress on your joints.

Cycling’s a great way to get active and save you money. Why not cycle to work instead of using the car?
