The Household Support Fund is aimed at preventing homelessness for residents who are experiencing hardship during the Cost of Living crisis and in need of support with their housing cost.

Applications are invited from services and agencies working with individuals and households who can clearly benefit from available funding to help prevent homelessness by utilising the CoLF to sustain existing tenancies or create new ones.

Criteria

  • The applicant must have been affected by the Cost of Living Crisis
  • The applicant must be currently renting or own their home and paying some form of housing costs
  • The applicant must be in arrears and at risk of homelessness
  • The property must be affordable and reasonable for the applicant to occupy after receiving a CoLF payment
  • The landlord or lender must agree to make the property available for at least six months after receiving a CoLF payment
  • Other funding routes must have been tried and exhausted first, e.g., Discretionary Housing Payments and Support for Mortgage Interest

The Homelessness Reduction Act introduces a new duty on certain public authorities in England to notify Local Housing Authorities of service users they think may be homeless or threatened with becoming homeless in 56 days.

The public authority must have permission from the individual before referring them and the individual should identify which Local Housing Authority they would like to be referred to.

In addition, a number of other agencies such as Social Housing providers, Police, and Homeless Charities, have signed up to a Voluntary Agreement to Refer.
