United Reform Church

This is another of the listed buildings in Union St’s collection.

It opened in 1858 and was long known as Queen St Congregational Church, because its community started in premises on that street at the side.  It was renamed the United Congregational Church in 1972.

Originally it had a tall slender spire but that didn’t survive the impact of road traffic in the early 20thC.

In 2015 the church’s congregation secured a Heritage Lottery Grant of £350,000 for restoration work.
