Oldham’s outdoor Tommyfield Market had many colourful characters, none less so than Edith Ralphs who managed her Lancashire Towel Stall, while happily gossiping with customers and reciting Lancashire dialect poems, many of which she had written and published herself.
She had also been a cinema pianist playing supporting background music to silent films.
