George Street Chapel

George St Chapel is a Grade Two* listed building constructed in 1815.

Although on George St, the contemporary chronicler, James Butterworth, says it was built at Jackson Pit, which is the lane behind it.

Acquired by Age UK as an event venue, it has been lovingly restored. One of its more interesting features are the cellar dwellings beneath, which acted as a form of social housing to support people in need as part of the chapel’s outreach work into the community.
