We are introducing a new and improved housing allocations system which will deliver real benefits for people on the housing register.
Housing applications will now be dealt with more efficiently, meaning residents will get quicker decisions when bidding for social housing.
Why are you introducing the new system?
We’ve listened to what residents have said and understand why they are frustrated with the current applications procedure.
This new system will help speed up the process and once people are registered on it, they’ll be able to track the progress of their application.
Applicants will be told what information they need to provide before they complete the form.
They will also find out much quicker and in some cases instantly, if they are not eligible to join the housing register and why as well as alternative options to consider.
If I’m currently on the housing register do I need to enter all my details again and will I lose my priority place?
No, all your details will be transferred over to the new system.
However, you will need to create a new log in and password so you can log in.
You’ll receive an email on how to do that.
I’m already on the housing register. What benefits will the new system give me?
Once you have registered and received a log in you’ll be able to track where your application is up to.
Previously you had to get in touch with the housing team for an update.
You’ll also be able to update your personal details on the system if your circumstances change.
I’m about to apply to go on the housing register. What will it mean to me?
Due to the demand for housing our staff are currently very busy processing new and existing applications.
That means some are taking several weeks to process. This new system will help speed things up.
Your details will be on the system a lot quicker and, depending on your circumstances, could help you get a home when one becomes available.
Does the new system guarantee I’ll get a new home?
Unfortunately, no.
As a council we are doing everything we can to respond to the national housing crisis.
Social housing changes lives, giving people a stable, affordable home - but there’s not enough social homes to go round.
That’s why we’d just like to make it clear this new system doesn’t guarantee you a home, but it does go a long way to helping you out because it is more efficient than what was in place before.
