Flower Festival blooms in Parliament Square

Parliament Square will be blossoming with the beauties of nature when the annual Oldham Flower Festival returns to the town centre.

Taking place on Saturday 15 July, 11am-4pm, the festival will offer a wide range of fun activities for all the family to enjoy. This includes live demonstrations from TV’s star gardener Katie Rushworth, planting and craft activities and tall tale sessions in the Shed of Stories.

There will be also an opportunity to meet the Very Hungry Caterpillar at intervals throughout the day.

The fun doesn’t stop at Parliament Square though, as Gallery Oldham will be buzzing with a hive of activity for their annual Bee Day event on the same day (11am-4pm).

With honey tasting sessions, a bee dance performance from Oldham Theatre Workshop, and a chance to meet Oldham’s resident bees and beekeeping experts, you don’t want to miss out.

The Small Cinema will also be showing Bee Movie (U) from 2pm at Oldham Library’s Performance Space. Tickets are £3.50 each and children get a free goodie bag with a drink, popcorn and treats.

Jean Stretton, Oldham Council Leader, said: “The Oldham Flower Festival brings a lot of joy to the town centre every year and the event really complements our fantastic flower displays.

“With a great line-up of flowery activities at our new public space, Parliament Square, and lots of bee-related fun at Gallery Oldham, the town will be buzzing so make sure you come down.”
