Oldham Council celebrates achievements of cared-for children
Over 300 cared-for children and young people were nominated for an award at Oldham Council’s annual Stars in Our Eyes event.
Superheroes and princesses joined the children, parents and carers on Friday 7 April to celebrate their achievements.
Award categories included: Achieving aspirations and making progress in education, leading healthy and active lifestyles, being ready for work and lifelong learning, participating in the decision making process, being involved in meaningful positive activities and being safe and keeping others safe.
The children also enjoyed face painting, arts and crafts and poetry and singing performances from some of Oldham’s cared-for children.
Cllr Jenny Harrison, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Safeguarding, said: “It was fantastic to see the children and young people enjoying themselves on the evening.
“Lots of our cared-for children have troubled backgrounds, so recognising them for the things they have achieved despite their circumstances made it extra special. I’d like to thank all involved for making the evening a great success.”
Players from Oldham Athletic also joined the children on the evening to present a signed football to one lucky winner as part of a prize draw.
