Proud to call Oldham home: Students celebrate outstanding A Level and T Level success across the borough

At Crompton House Sixth Form, students were all smiles as they opened their results, contributing to the school's position among the top 10 per cent nationally for student progress.

Leading the celebrations was Katie Elphick, who achieved a remarkable five A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Her outstanding results have secured a place at the University of Oxford, where she will study Biology.

Speaking after collecting her results, Katie said: "I just didn't stop. I worked so hard but I didn't expect this. I'm shocked but very happy."

Another student celebrating a place at one of the world's leading universities is Brooke Crotty, who has secured a place at the University of Cambridge after achieving an A* in History and A grades in Politics and English Literature.

Over the years, Brooke has gained valuable work experience that has helped shape her future ambitions. She previously took part in a scheme led by Andy Burnham and also spent time working in the women's rehabilitation ward at Prestwich Hospital.

Brooke described the hospital placement as "eye-opening" and said it inspired her to pursue a career focused on helping and supporting others. While she is excited about the opportunities ahead at Cambridge, Brooke was clear that there is nowhere she loves more than Oldham, a place she is proud to call home.

Among the other success stories is Abigail Evans, who achieved an A* in Sociology, A grades in Psychology and Biology, and an A in her Advanced Project Qualification (APQ), securing a place to study Human Sciences at the University of Oxford.

Away from her studies, Abigail is an accomplished saxophonist who has performed at every Crompton House music event since Year 7 and is a member of an Oldham Music Centre band. She is also a second-degree black belt in karate and is looking forward to joining Oxford University's karate club while exploring all that university life has to offer.

Aspiring doctor Cain Andrews achieved an A* in Biology, A grades in Economics and Chemistry, and a B in his EPQ, earning a place to study Medicine at the University of Manchester.

Other high achievers include Simbarashe Madume, who achieved A* grades in Mathematics and Physics and an A in his EPQ, Macie Goulding, who secured A* grades in Psychology and Sociology and an A in Politics, Katie Barnett, who achieved three A grades and will study Philosophy of Science with Biology at the University of Leeds and Alice Preen, who is heading to Keele University to study Paramedic Science.

Crompton House reported an overall 99.8 per cent pass rate, with almost a quarter of all grades awarded at A* to A and more than half at A* to B.

Head of Sixth Form Rich Smith said: "I am delighted with the overall results and the fantastic achievements of individual students. The students should be so proud of themselves, their hard work has clearly paid off."

At North Chadderton Sixth Form, Emily Pollitt achieved three A* grades in Psychology, Sociology and English Language and will study Psychology at the University of Manchester.

Benjamin Tilston and Ibrahim Hussain both studied Biology, Chemistry and Maths and will go on to study Medicine at Leeds University and University College London respectively.

Artiola Hysen has secured a degree apprenticeship with Oldham-based company Ultimate Products, while Nicola Winterbottom is heading to the University of Leeds to study Theatre and Performance.

At Oldham Sixth Form College, students are celebrating some of the strongest results in the college's history, with 67 per cent of students achieving all A and A grades or vocational equivalents.

Among the top performers were Ayesha Begom, Hafsa Begum and Megan Rainton, who each achieved three A* grades and will go on to study Pharmacy and Law at Manchester and Mathematics at Warwick respectively.

Other success stories include Francesca Lloyd, who has secured a place to study Veterinary Science at the University of Cambridge, Ameera Aslam, who will study Medicine at Hull York Medical School, and Sarrinah Chaudhry, who is heading to the University of Manchester to study Dentistry.

Oldham College is celebrating a third consecutive year of improvement in Level 3 achievement rates.
Creative Arts, Design and Media saw outstanding results across the board, with students obtaining 100 per cent achievement in Graphic Design, Media, Photography and Fashion courses, and 100 per cent of students in Photography and Fashion achieved a Distinction. There were also particularly strong results for the Extended Diploma in Science, which achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.

T Level students also achieved strong results, with a record number of students achieving high grades of a Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

Of this year's Level 3 16-18 cohort, 60 per cent are expected to progress to university or a higher apprenticeship, while others intend to progress to an apprenticeship, further study or skilled employment.

Special guests including James Kington, Director of Growth at Oldham Council; Kelly Beaumont, Project Officer at the Gatsby Charitable Foundation; and Dominic Green, Technical Advisor for Business Skills at City and Guilds, visited campus to join the celebrations and congratulate students.

Principal Simon Jordan said: "These achievements are a reflection of their hard work, determination, and ambition. As they take the next step towards their future, they should be incredibly proud of their accomplishments.

“Our students benefit from industry-experienced tutors, knowledgeable support staff, and opportunities created by our strong employer partnerships. I would like to thank our staff, employers and partners for the support they have given our students throughout their time at the College, as well as parents and carers at home.

“We are incredibly proud of all of our students and wish them every success as they progress onto the next stage of their journeys.”

Meanwhile, at Blue Coat Sixth Form, students are also celebrating a strong set of results.

Several students have secured places on Medicine courses, with destinations including Oxford, King's College London, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and Leeds. Others are heading to universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick and Durham to study subjects such as Computer Science, Biochemistry, Physiotherapy, Law, Physics and Astronomy, and Human, Social and Political Sciences.

Blue Coat students celebrating their achievements include Emily Hohmann, Haider Ullah Hassan, Zunaira Kayani, Ameya Krishna, Niyazur Rahman, Aroush Yasin, Benjamin Watkinson, Megan Weir, Caleb Pennystan, Poppy Blair, Isaac Cheung, Amelie Dickens and Declan Johnston.

A council spokesperson said: "The results mark another successful year for sixth form students across Oldham. We are incredibly proud of all the young people across Oldham who are celebrating their A Level results.

"Their hard work, determination and resilience have opened doors to exciting opportunities and bright futures and they should all be immensely proud of what they have achieved.

"We look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in the years ahead."
