Oldham Youth Hub Launch
Oldham Youth Hub Launch
Published: Friday, 24th March 2023

Oldham Council recently hosted an event to launch a new Youth Hub – a co-ordinated approach to provide support to Oldham’s young people who are thinking about getting a job or returning to training.

Young people are invited to come along to the base of the hub in the new Get Oldham Working offices on Union Street to get the support they need to either find employment, make a career change, or re-engage in education or training at whatever level suits them.

Those who seek help can get access to career advice from Get Oldham Working, Positive Steps and the dedicated Youth Job Centre Plus worker, all under the same brand of Oldham’s Youth Hub.

If further support is required, staff will be able to support young people to put referrals and enquiries to relevant agencies to help them further.

At the event, various organisations pledged their support to Oldham’s young people – these can be seen on the Council’s Youtube Channel (link)

Councillor Shoab Akhtar, Cabinet Member for Employment and Enterprise, said:

“The youth hub is so important to our young people of Oldham as it will be a hub where they can get advice and support from organisations under one roof.

“I encourage others to get involved in the Youth Hub, by pledging to how you will plan on supporting the youth of Oldham.

“My message to young people is this – if you’re looking to get a job, change career, or go back to learning, get in touch with the youth hub.

“Members of the team will support you to get you where you want to be on your path to a career.”

“The hub is part of our wider strategy of the Council’s commitment to support children and young people to get the best start in life.”

The Youth Hub is based at its new headquarters on the ground floor of the First Choice Homes Building on Union Street, 22 Union St, Oldham OL1 1BE.

Both Get Oldham Working and Positive Steps are open 9 – 5, Monday to Friday.  Positive Steps have a focused Careers Drop In for 16 – 18 year olds on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Those already involved in the hub include Positive Steps Oldham, Oldham Job Centre, , Get Oldham Working and a range of employers, training and education providers who have pledged to support the Youth Hub
