This year's Christmas Toy Appeal generated a huge haul for Oldham's looked after children.
Council staff, elected members and businesses from across the borough have stepped up to join this year's Oldham Council Christmas toy appeal, which will see hundreds of children in Oldham receive a gift this Christmas.
More than 1,000 gifts were purchased by Oldham Council staff and councillors, as well as colleagues from the NHS and MIocare. The gift appeal was also boosted by very generous donations from local businesses.
All of the presents will go to young people in the borough who may not otherwise receive anything this Christmas.
Councillor Chadderton said: "While many of us look forward to celebrating Christmas with our nearest and dearest, at this time of year we also remember that, for many people, Christmas can be a difficult time of year.
"Sadly we know that, with the Cost of Living crisis, more people than ever are struggling to afford even the most basic food and groceries, let alone presents. That's why we as a Council have organised this year's toy appeal, to try and put a smile on the faces of those children who, sadly, may not otherwise receive anything this year.
"I'm so grateful to our local businesses who have been so incredibly generous and joined us in making the appeal a success."
Tilbury Douglas, which made a donation to the appeal today (Wednesday 6 December) is leading the restoration of the Grade II-listed Old Library building, which is being converted into community facilities, offices and a new Council chamber.
Other kind-hearted local businesses who came forward to support the appeal included Wilmott Dixon, Edge Hill Rest Home, Fern Bank Therapeutic Community, Age UK and Lees-based Character Options.
At Oldham Council, the appeal was organised and run by Corporate Support Business Partner Beckie Wylie Rothwell, and Personal Assistant Gail McDonough.
