Ward councillor Hannah Roberts, who won her seat at the Hollinwood by-election last week, has been named Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods.

The cabinet member responsibilities were previously held by Councillor Jean Stretton, who sadly died in September this year, leaving the Hollinwood seat vacant.

Cllr Roberts, who was a councillor in Royton North from 2014 until May this year, has significant experience in serving on Oldham Council's Cabinet. She previously held the portfolio for Housing, and prior to that served as the deputy cabinet member for Early Years.

Leader of Oldham Council, Amanda Chadderton, said: "I'm delighted to have Hannah back on the Council, and very pleased that she's agreed to go back in the Cabinet.

"Her experience, knowledge and attention to detail makes her a great fit for the neighbourhoods portfolio, and she'll be a real asset to our Borough."

The Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods role covers a range of responsibilities including highways, trading standards, licensing, registrars and cemeteries, environmental services, waste and recycling, parks and countryside, community safety and emergency planning.

One of the key parts of the portfolio area is the popular Don't Trash Oldham campaign, which was recently relaunched for a second year and focuses on cleaning up areas across the borough.

Cllr Roberts said: "I'm pleased to be returning to the Cabinet, and to the Council Chamber, even if it is in the saddest of circumstances following the death of our friend and colleague Jean.

"I am absolutely committed to delivering the best possible services for the people of Oldham and will be working hard with my fellow Members to get on with the job."
