Harry Catherall, Cllr Arooj Shah and Frank Rothwell Published: Thursday, 24th March 2022

More than 130 businesses joined Oldham’s Business Ambassador Frank Rothwell at a Business Breakfast with Oldham Council Leader Arooj Shah and Chief Executive Harry Catherall.

The event was organised by Frank to bring together businesses from across the borough to discuss the future vision and opportunities in Oldham.

Representing over 5,000 employees, businesses had their questions answered, heard more about our exciting regeneration projects and how businesses can benefit from these and many other initiatives happening in Oldham.

Cllr Arooj Shah said: “Oldham has some amazing businesses and a fantastic entrepreneurial spirit – the businesses here today are proof of that.

“I look forward to supporting them to grow and benefit from all the fantastic opportunities we are creating in Oldham. In doing so, we will make Oldham an even better place to live, work and do business.

“I am grateful to Frank for organising this event and taking on the role of Oldham Business Ambassador. He knows exactly what it’s like to set up and run your own business and he is the perfect person to represent and inspire our business community.”

Frank, founder and retired managing director of Manchester Cabins, said: “This was a brilliant event – the first of many.

“I want to provide that link between businesses and the leaders of the council and encourage businesses across Oldham, no matter how big or small, to have their voices heard.

“I believe, when a local authority provides a supportive environment for businesses, the businesses thrive, which in turn generates a positive trickle-down effect and offers a better life for everyone in our town.

"The next Business Breakfast will take place on 15 September at Mahdlo and will focus on sustainability. Please come along and if you can't make it, send a colleague and have your business represented."

Wednesday's event was held at Oldham Event Centre and was also attended by teams from across Oldham Council including Get Oldham Working and our business growth and investment team – a free and flexible support offer to help make a real difference to your business.

Much of this package is unique to the borough and includes grant funding, access to finance, growth advice, workforce development and networking opportunities.

Whether you’re a start-up, established business, or looking to invest, we have account managers ready to provide you with tailor-made advice. For more information email invest@oldham.gov.uk
