The Oldham Council Cabinet Member for Education and Skills has praised schools as they break up for the Christmas holidays.

Councillor Shaid Mushtaq, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said:

“As the Winter holidays arrive I just wanted to say a huge thank you and well done to all of the teachers, parents and students who have done everything they can to make this term a success under difficult circumstances. I know how tough it’s been not just this year but over the past 18 months and the impact this has had on our young people. The disruption that Covid has brought has been massive and your continued efforts to ensure that children in our borough get the best education they can has been inspiring.

“Oldham has continued to pull together to do everything we can to help our young people, be it working through isolation and school bubbles or tackling the challenges of home learning. You’ve shown that no matter what gets thrown at us we continue to adapt and provide a great education for the children who learn in our borough and I can’t say enough just how important that is.

“I know we’re not out of the woods just yet, the Covid situation remains uncertain but I know that no matter what happens you will all continue to rise to whatever challenges may come our way.

“I and the rest of Oldham Council appreciate all of your vital work and we hope you all have a well-deserved rest where you can.

“Thank you.”
