Oldham Council is encouraging students who are receiving their A-Level and GCSE results to take their Next Steps, whatever the results may be.

It’s been a very tough 18 months for students across Oldham and many have missed a large chunk of their education due to the ongoing pandemic.

Students might feel a little more anxious than usual about receiving the all-important results, but we want to reassure everyone that, whatever the outcome, there are lots of opportunities available including both academic and vocational routes with learning in schools, colleges, training providers, universities and in the workplace.

To make it as easy as possible for school and college leavers to take their next steps we have put together a comprehensive webpage which includes a range of information on what to do after results day.  The page includes links to guidance on what to expect on results day, information for care leavers, links to colleges across Greater Manchester, advice on finding work, links to various student mental health services and even advice for parents.

Councillor Shaid Mushtaq, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: “We’d like to congratulate all our pupils who after years of hard work and dedication and through the challenges of the pandemic, have achieved the GCSE grades they require.

“GCSEs are an important part of a young person’s education and getting results is a significant occasion in their lives and now is the time for them to think about their next steps.

“Whether they were what you wanted or not, there’s so many opportunities in Oldham, as well as the fantastic support services available through your school, college and partners such as Positive Steps and Get Oldham Working that can help.

“We will continue to work in partnership with our schools, colleges and partners to find ways we can best support Oldham’s young people.”

“Finally, we’d also like to thank the parent/carers, teachers, governors and staff who have supported our young people during this last year. Oldham Council is committed to working in partnership with all schools and academies to ensure the very best for all young people in the borough.”
