Waste bags Published: Monday, 14th June 2021

Oldham Council would like to thank everyone who supported Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign (28 May to 13 June).

Over the last couple of weeks tons of rubbish have been removed from our streets thanks to the hard work of residents, councillors, voluntary groups and organisations.

People from across the borough got involved, giving up their own time to make our town look cleaner and greener.

Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “Since the pandemic started one of the things that has really made me proud is how residents have come together and are prepared give up their own time.

“They’ve done it once again by getting behind the Great British Spring Clean – showing real pride in the neighbourhoods and areas where they live.

“Our Street cleaners do a great job cleaning up the borough but any help they receive from the public is appreciated.”

Councillor Amanda Chadderton, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Making sure our streets are clean is a priority for Oldham Council so it’s been really encouraging to see so many people out and about doing their bit and picking up litter – you have made a huge difference.

“We know lots of our residents already carry out clean ups on a regular basis, but this extra effort sends out a clear message that Oldhamers don’t want to see litter and waste left in the areas where they live

“Let’s keep this momentum up and if we all work together then we can make sure our streets, parks, countryside and open spaces are cleaner.”

The council supports community litter picks, and our District Teams loan out equipment.

You can contact your District Team to book a time to pick up equipment for community groups, if you wish to do so via

If you want us to remove bagged litter after an organised group litterpick, we will need to agree dates, times and locations in advance. Please give us as much notice as possible so we can support you.

However, if you are doing this as an individual, do not let this stop you from litter picking, just put any waste you collect in your bin at home.
