Oldham Council Leader Sean Fielding has paid tribute to Mahdlo Youth Zone's CEO Mike Doran, who sadly passed away from coronavirus at the weekend.
Councillor Sean Fielding says: “On behalf of Oldham Council I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Mike’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time. He was part of the Oldham community, with a passion for our town.
“Mike’s work for Mahdlo changed the lives of many young people in Oldham for the better, and so on behalf of all those young people I would like to say thank you to Mike for all he did.
“He will be sorely missed by many. He leaves an incredible legacy and here in Oldham we will continue to support Mahdlo, and its vision and values so strongly established by Mike. He was a truly selfless person.”
Mahdlo is a charity that delivers high quality, innovative activities and experiences for young people from Oldham, providing opportunities to raise aspirations and support young people to be the best they can be. A state-of-the-art Youth Zone is in the heart of Oldham on Egerton Street, for 8-19 year olds (up to 25 for young people with a disability). Mike was instrumental in making this happen. In normal times it is open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year and offers a wide range of activities and opportunities that all young people from across Oldham can benefit from.
