Gallery Oldham is inviting you to see paper in a new light with a new touring exhibition from the Arts Council Collection.
The exciting exhibition will launch on Saturday 5 October and runs until Saturday 30 November – and it’s anything but ‘TEARable’.
‘On Paper’ explores work from some of Britain’s most prominent artists, including Roger Ackling, Cornelia Parker, Tim Davies and Simon Periton; and showcases a huge range of approaches to working in paper – from collage to sculpture, corrugated card to blotting paper. Featured artists have also used paper to construct three-dimensional objects such as Lesley Foxcroft’s two-tone corrugated bricks, Gareth Jones’ cloakroom ticket cape and Art and Language’s jigsaw.
A range of engaging activities and workshops will accompany the exhibition to allow you to take a ‘hands-on’ approach and put your paper manipulation skills to the test.
Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Economy and Enterprise, Councillor Sean Fielding, said:
“First off I’d just like to thank the Arts Council Collection for loaning us this exhibition of work by a selection of talented artists from the UK.
“Art can be expressed in many forms and I think this exhibition goes to show how unique and personal it can be.
“This is just one of the many exhibitions on show at the gallery. We’re proud of our gallery team for continually working hard to provide visitors with the best exhibitions and events.
“Gallery Oldham provides an outstanding space for spending an afternoon with the kids, grandkids, or with a family member. Just explore, interact and learn.”
“We have exciting plans in the future for the Gallery as we look to expand into the Old Library Building on Union Street. The new venue – named OMA – will become a new place for arts, heritage and culture in the heart of Oldham town centre.
