Eating well, moving more, drinking less and quitting smoking are common resolutions this new year but they can be hard to stick to.

That’s why we’re once again supporting residents to continue with their resolutions well into the new year with our annual New Year, New You campaign #NYNU18.

Small lifestyle changes bring big health benefits and that’s why this year, in partnership with Oldham Community Leisure (OCL), we’re asking residents to share their health pledges.

Whether it’s to eat more healthily, get off the bus a stop earlier, enjoy the local park, cut back on the drink or stop smoking we want residents to share what they’re planning to do in 2018 to keep active and healthy. 

Each week one lucky winner will receive a seven day pass from OCL to use at any of their six centres.

In support of Public Health England’s One You campaign, throughout January we will be giving local people handy tips to help them feel fantastic.

And we’re always updating our own move more website - Get Oldham Active, a dedicated resource to help all residents move more by finding the exercise that’s right for them.

There’s also the new Change4life Sugar Smart app which helps families to make small swaps to cut sugar and fat from their everyday snacks, drinks and meals.

How about going from cheese to reduced fat cheese; sugary cereal to plain cereal; whole milk to semi-skimmed; and butter to lower fat butter or spreads?

As part of National Obesity Week which runs from 8 to 13 January, Oldham Library is hosting a range of events to help residents start the year as they mean to go on.

Want to give up smoking? Just think, you could make the cost of next Christmas a whole lot easier thanks to the money you’ll have saved while also feeling healthier.

“By making a few small changes like swapping sugary drinks, cereal and cheese to healthier options, you can make a big difference to your health and wellbeing.

“Many people make a commitment to be healthy at this time of year but often they need some support to continue with their journey. We are here to help.”
