Oldham Council has been named the North West’s energy efficiency Council of the Year.
At the North West Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes Awards 2017 a number of accolades came to Oldham for the innovative work being carried out across the borough.
The awards, held in St Helens, recognise work to improve energy efficiency in the region and how it helps homeowners reduce their energy bills, tackle fuel poverty and lower their carbon emissions.
Oldham Council won Council of the Year and the council’s Principal Housing Energy Officer James Sommerville won Energy Efficiency Champion.
First Choice Homes won Landlord of the Year and the Warm Homes Oldham scheme received two commendations.
The scheme’s contractors Keepmoat and JNR Contracting were both recognised for their hard work and commitment to helping Oldham residents.
James Sommerville said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised as a council and also on a personal level but the amount of lives we change through our work is the only motivation we need.
“The Warm Homes Oldham scheme has helped thousands of people out of fuel poverty over the last few years. But there is still plenty of work to be done and many more residents to help.”
