Oldham Council has helped the borough's first indoor trampoline park get off the ground.

The local authority’s Get Oldham Working (GOW) team has been instrumental helping to recruit around 30 staff members for the Extreme Air trampoline centre at Alexandra Retail Park, near to the town centre.

After being approached by Extreme Air’s owners David Thornton and Julian Syson the GOW team advertised opportunities and were contacted by 150 interested people. Eventually this figure was shortlisted to 40 following information and screening sessions run by the council.

Further support was offered to those applicants who may not have been suitable this time, including advice on other opportunities.

Staff were then chosen following a final two-day training course – including first aid, health and safety and food hygiene - hosted at a council building, again demonstrating our commitment to the centre.

The centre features multiple trampolines that can be used for a number of fun leisure activities – aimed at families and the young through to older age groups.

You can take part in free-jumping, fitness classes, toddler sessions, coaching, parties and group and corporate entertainment.

As well as trampolines, the park will host an adventure section with battle pit and giant air bag with an ethos of providing a safe but exciting environment. There will also be basketball courts, fitness balance beams and a cafe.

Councillor Jean Stretton, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “We’re delighted that David and Julian are prepared to open their first trampoline centre in Oldham and it is further evidence that people are prepared to invest money here.

“They are among a growing number of restaurateurs, traders and businesses that are helping us regenerate the borough’s important retail and leisure areas.

“An added bonus to this facility is that trampoline exercise offers excellent health and fitness benefits for residents.”

David and Julian added: “We have been overwhelmed with the help and support offered to us from Oldham, the team at GOW have been outstanding - they have helped enormously with the recruitment and facilities.

“We would like to mention Helen and James from the team who have been a huge asset, they have demonstrated a true commitment to Extreme Air and Oldham. Thank you.”

The council’s planning committee granted permission for the facility In July and since then David and Julian have been working round the clock to get it ready for a VIP opening day on Friday, September 30.
