WRAP (Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent)

The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, contains a duty on local authorities to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.

Staff should understand what radicalisation means and why people may be vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism as a consequence of it.  They need to be aware of what we mean by the term “extremism” and the relationship between extremism and terrorism.

WRAP is a safeguarding workshop being offered to all relevant staff to attend, in order to gain a good understanding of Prevent and recognise the vulnerability to being drawn into terrorism and the process to deal with any issues, including how to recognise the initial signs of individuals, vulnerable to radicalisation as well as those who radicalise.

The workshop is an interactive facilitated workshop centred around a DVD and provides:

  • An awareness and understanding of the Prevent agenda and their role within it;
  • The confidence and ability to use existing expertise and professional judgement to recognise potentially vulnerable individuals who may be susceptible to messages of violence.

The workshop is an introduction to Prevent and covers issues such as crime, normal social processes that are used to influence and manipulate extreme right-wing and Al Qa’ida case studies, terrorist ideologies and factors which may contribute to an individual’s susceptibility to a terrorist ideology.

The WRAP session will be delivered on the following dates:

  • Thursday 26 April 2018, 2:00pm – 3:30pm, The Lees Suite, Oldham Civic Centre
  • Wednesday 9 May 2018, 2:00pm – 3:30pm, The Lees Suite, Oldham Civic Centre

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come basis.  If you would like to book your staff onto a session, please complete the attached form and return it to Anthony Booth, Business Support Officer Email:
