Which libraries can I visit?

From Monday 6 July, only Oldham Library will be open and operating a limited service. We will announce the opening of other libraries over the coming months as they are prepared for safe opening. 

Have the opening times changed?

Yes, slightly. From Monday 6 July you’ll be able to visit Oldham Library Monday – Saturday, 10am–5pm. 

Will I be able to browse the bookshelves?

Due to the 2 metre social distancing and quarantining rules for book stock, visitors won’t be able to browse the bookshelves at present.

Instead, you’ll be able to choose from the genre packs we’ve prepared, each containing three books. 

How many genre packs am I allowed to borrow?

You can borrow up to four genre packs, giving you a total of 12 books.  

Is the children’s library open?

Following government guidelines, at the moment the children’s library will remain closed.

Will children’s books be available to borrow?

Yes, children’s books have been packaged up in threes ready for you to collect. We will have packs tailored to different age groups. 

Children under the age of 12 have to be accompanied by an adult.

Will it be safe to handle the books on offer?

Yes, all available books will have been quarantined for 72 hours.

What computer facilities are available?

Library users will be able to access our IT facilities for a maximum of one hour, per day, per customer at set times. Limited PCs and access times will be available to comply with social distancing and hygiene measures.

The set times are:

10.15–11.15 am 
1.15–2.15 pm 
2.45–3.45 pm

Pre-booking a slot is highly recommended. You can do this by phoning 0161 770 8000, phone lines for computer bookings will open at 10am on Monday 29 June.

Children, 12 and under, may use the computers but one responsible adult must be present. 

Can I use the toilets?

Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to allow customers access to the toilet facilities, in compliance with government guidelines. 

Is the café open?

No, for now, the café is to remain closed.

Can I buy something from the Gallery shop?

At the moment, you will not be able to purchase anything from the Gallery shop. 

Can I use the study space?

The study space is to remain closed for the time being.

Is the Lifelong Learning Centre and Gallery Oldham open?

The Lifelong Learning Centre and Gallery Oldham are currently not open to the public. While they are being prepared to open safely, services are continuing to be delivered online.
