6. Charges for school activities

Generally education is free. There are a few things that can be charged for such as overnight accommodation charges.

Parents whose children are in receipt of free school meals are exempt from paying for board and lodging charges on residential trips. Schools should make it clear where help may be available for those unable to afford the cost of school trips.

Charges for school activities that are during school hours should not be made nor for activities that are outside school hours that are part of the National Curriculum or part of a syllabus for a prescribed public examination.
