If a person who normally lives at your address is now living in a residential care home, hospital or certain type of hostel, and is not intending to return home, you may be eligible for a Council Tax discount.

Living elsewhere to receive or provide personal care

A person who leaves a property empty to live with someone else in order to receive or provide personal care, or has entered some other institution in order to receive care may be eligible for an exemption (so there will be no Council Tax to pay at all).

The person must be receiving or providing personal care due to old age, disablement, illness, past or present alcohol or drug dependence, or past or present mental disorder.

The empty property must previously have been the sole or main residence of the person receiving or providing personal care.
