Are you ready for winter?
Autumn is turning to winter and the nights are drawing in but most of all, it’s just getting colder.
Here are our top five tips for getting through winter:
Keep an eye on Social Media
Did you know we have a dedicated Twitter account for winter alerts and news? Follow @OldhamAlert now. We also keep our main Twitter (@OldhamCouncil) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/loveOldham) up to date too!
Is your child’s school closed because of bad weather?
You can find out here but always remember to check with the school too!
Wrap up warm!
It might sound simple but a couple of extra layers of clothes will help you keep toasty all winter. If you can, it’s also worth wrapping water tanks and pipes with insulation too, it will help stop them freezing and bursting.
Prepare an emergency kit
The British Red Cross has a great list of emergency essentials; we’d definitely recommend checking it out here.
Be a good neighbour – Use your grit bin
If you are able, you can help your street by clearing ice and snow using the grit bin provided. There’s a full list of grit bins here and if you don’t have one, you can request one here.
