The Council, as Highway Authority, has a duty to ensure that street name plates are provided and fitted in suitable positions on every highway within the Oldham Borough.
It is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of these street name plates when this becomes necessary, either due to accidental damage, vandalism or normal wear and tear.
In the case of a new development the road or street is named and has a street nameplate erected by the Developer or Builder to the Council's specification. Upon satisfactory completion by the Developer, the Council adopts the Street as a highway, maintainable at public expense, and accepts future responsibility for maintaining and replacing the street's nameplates.
