There are various types of tools that can assist you with your daily tasks at home.

These tools are designed to make it easier and safer for you to manage things on your own, especially if you're older or have a disability.

There are different kinds of tools available to help in different areas of your home:

  • Kitchen: Examples include larger control knobs for stoves and devices to help you pour liquids.
  • Bathroom: This might involve raised toilet seats, shower and bath seats, and changes to taps.
  • Bedroom: Specially adapted beds, grab rails, and talking clocks are some options.
  • Living room: You can find specially designed chairs, and hoists that can be mobile or mounted to the ceiling.
  • Other parts of your home: This could include louder doorbells and phones, rails from the wall to the floor, adjustments to steps, and trolleys for moving things between rooms.

Ask for an assesment

Our Community Occupational Therapy Team can carry out an assessment to get a clearer picture of the difficulties that you are having (e.g. bathing, climbing stairs, or transferring from a chair to a bed) and advise you about eligibility, and tell you about other services that may be available.

Please note

The Community Occupational Therapy Team does not provide wheelchairs, please request a referral to Wheelchair Services via your GP. Alternatively, you may be able to rent or buy wheelchairs from suitable suppliers.

If your referral is requesting support with walking and overall mobility, including the risk of falls, please discuss a referral to Physiotherapy with your GP.

If you are requesting an assessment for rehousing on medical grounds, please visit our Apply for Social Housing page
