Oldham Youth Justice Service

Oldham is one of nine Youth Justice Services in Greater Manchester. We are the only statutory Youth Offending Team in England and Wales which is sub-contracted by the Local Authority and directly delivered by an independent charitable trust. 

The Youth Justice Service is underpinned by a belief that we can support young people to become positive members of the community, while maintaining the safety of the public. 

Who is it for?

  • Young people (age 10-18) who are either involved in the criminal justice system, following court proceedings, or are identified as at risk of becoming involved in criminality.

Oldham Criminal Justice Mental Health Service

Help for offenders or potential offenders with mental health problems

The Criminal Justice Mental Health Team covers the five boroughs within the Pennine Care footprint.

We offer advice, assessments, risk assessments, to provide some short term interventions for clients with mental health problems who are on the periphery of offending behaviour or have committed an offence and to support services involved with this client group to best achieve outcomes.

The purpose of the team is to assess and make recommendations for clients who are involved in the criminal justice system in order to ensure fair treatment, access to appropriate services and diversion away from the criminal justice services for those offenders who are in need of treatment rather than punishment.

Public protection is a key element of this process.We work collaboratively with mental health services, social care, the police, the courts, prisons, probation services and othersto try to obtain the best and fairest pathway for the offender with mental health problems and to ensure that public protection remains at the forefront.

The team operates an open referral system, they provide support to clients from 18 years old
