We were notified on Monday 25 September that Ofsted will be inspecting against the local area’s effectiveness in identifying and meeting the needs of children and young people who have Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) on Monday 2 October – Friday 6 October 2017.
The purpose of the local area inspection is to provide an independent external evaluation of how well Oldham carries out its statutory duties in relation to children and young people with SEND in order to support their development.
The inspection is not a graded inspection however, the council and its partners will receive a narrative judgement. The inspection will review how local areas support these children and young people to achieve the best possible educational and other outcomes, such as being able to live independently, secure meaningful employment and be well prepared for their adult lives:
- · How effectively does the local area identify children and young people who have special needs and/or disabilities?
- · How effectively does the local area assess and meet the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities?
- · How effectively does the local area improve outcomes for children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities?
We will be informing all relevant partners outlining the implications and expectations for their participation.
Have your say
The inspection has, so far, included a webinar to allow Oldham parents and carers of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities to contribute, which took place on Tuesday, 3 October 2017.
An additional opportunity for children and young people with SEND and their parents/carers has been made available to contribute your views through an online survey.
Your views are vitally important and we would encourage you to participate using the below link before close of play, Thursday 5 October 2017.
