2019
The Senior Ensembles of the Oldham Music Centre continue their outstanding tradition of representing the borough, both locally and nationally.
The Youth Wind Band are once again successful at the regional heat of the National Concert Band Festival and are awarded the outstanding Platinum prize at the UK finals, held at the Royal northern College of Music in April.
The Youth Brass Band also achieve great recognition for their performances at contests and concerts in 2019 with a particular highlight being the award of the highest placed local band at the Delph village Whit Friday contest, coming ahead of numerous, adult bands.
As in previous years, the Oldham Youth Orchestra is the only Youth Orchestra from the NW to be selected to take part in the National Festival of Music for Youth at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and performs to great acclaim. The orchestra also takes part in a very special ‘Music for Youth Connects’ workshop at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as part of its prize from the previous year’s performance at the National Festival.
2018
Once again the Youth Wind Band are awarded a Platinum award in the National Concert Band Festival and go on to represent Oldham in the National Finals.
The Youth Brass Band has an exceptional year, taking second place in the British Open Championships at the Guildhall in Preston and are also awarded one of only four top “Golds” in their Section at the National Youth Brass Band Championships at Warwick University. As usual they win a hat-full of prizes at the Whit Friday Contests and end the year by delighting the crowds with a marching band performance in Parliament Square as part of the Music Centre Summer Festival.
The Youth Orchestra qualifies for the finals of the National Festival of Music for Youth and performs a selection of American music which receives outstanding praise from the adjudicators.
The Music Centre’s Summer Festival is held in Parliament Square for the first time ever and draws in hundreds of Oldhamers, many of whom are hearing Music Centre groups for the first time.

Youth Brass Band, Wind Band and Orchestra undertake a tour to Lake Garda in Italy, giving superb concerts in Lazise, Sirmione and Pastrengo
The Youth Brass Band enjoys their most successful Whit Friday ever, narrowly missing out on the overall prize for Saddleworth and being placed higher than many adult bands.
Internationally renowned concert pianist, Angela Brownridge and Principal Tuba of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, Simon Styles, present workshops/recitals at the Lyceum.
