Motorways and unadopted streets

The Council is only responsible for publicly adopted roads and footpaths in the Oldham borough.

Motorways (e.g. M60) and the Trunk Roads (Broadway between the 627M and Manchester) are the responsibility of the Highways Agency’s contractor BBMM:

Unadopted streets

Unadopted streets are usually the responsibility of people with property fronting the street (street managers).

Street managers own the street up to the centre line and are responsible for maintaining it e.g. pothole filling.

If an unadopted street is not maintained to a satisfactory standard the Council can instruct owners to carry out work. If owners do not comply, the Council will do the work and charge the the owners.
